How Do I Keep Pests Away?

  • Bring insect repellent! Most mosquito are active at dusk and dawn. If you are planning an evening BBQ, we recommend buying a repellent that includes EPA-registered active ingredients like Picaridin or DEET. Here are Amazon’ top rated insect repellents.
  • Keep scented candles and flower away from the area. Stinging insects are highly attracted to fragrances!
  • Provide clear plastic cups for your guests. Aluminum cans and plastic bottles are good hiding places for pests.
  • Patch up holes! Before your BBQ, make sure you repair any holes in screen doors or windows where bugs could enter the home. Also, remind your guests to keep doors shut!
  • Avoid mess. Insects are attracted to the sweet syrupy smells of sodas and sugary drinks. Avoid spills and keep food in containers or coolers.
  • Remove or drain standing water. These are often a breeding source for mosquitoes. Keep in mind this could be anything from bird baths to garden pools.

If you’re still concerned about pests being a nuisance at your event, consider bringing in a professional! Protect All Pest Control is more than happy to get pests out. Check out our website for a list of services or give us a call at 770-212-9990 and you’ll be on your way to a pest free BBQ!

Kennesaw mosquito controlThere are many things to love about living in metro Atlanta- but the mosquito population isn’t one of them. If you’ve ever felt like you can’t walk out your front door without getting eaten alive, you’re not alone. According to a list published recently in USA Today, Atlanta is the worst mosquito city in the U.S.! In fact, 9 of the top 20 worst mosquito cities were in the Southeast- no surprise considering our warm climate, high humidity, and plenty of sources of standing water.

Cities on the list were ranked according to the highest number of customers paying for mosquito control services. Mosquito control can greatly improve your enjoyment of your yard and all outdoor spaces, but beyond that, reducing the risk of mosquito bites can also protect your family’s health.

Mosquitoes can carry a variety of serious viral diseases, including West Nile virus, Eastern Equine encephalitis virus, and chikungunya. Wearing bug spray can help, but eliminating sources of standing water is key. Empty bird baths and rain barrels, make sure there are no children’s toys collecting rain water, and check your gutters to make sure they are draining properly.

Unfortunately, even by taking all of those precautions, you may still have a mosquito problem. That’s where we can help with mosquito treatments in Kennesaw, Woodstock, Acworth, and throughout the north metro Atlanta area. Give us a call or contact us online today to discuss our mosquito control options and get an estimate. October Pest Watch: Rodents & Fabric-Destroying Insects

rodent control in KennesawFall weather means a break from summer’s pests, enjoying perfectly pleasant days on the porch or patio without irritating mosquitoes or wasps imposing on the party. Unfortunately, the change of seasons also hearkens in a new group of pests to watch out for around your Kennesaw home, especially disease-carrying rodents and fabric-destroying insects!

Rodent Control

As temperatures fall and you retreat into your warm house more and more, know that rodents will be seeking warmth and shelter there as well! While they may look cute from a distance, mice and rats can carry serious diseases and put your family’s health at risk through their urine, feces, even bites. Furthermore, they can bring allergens into the home and their droppings and fur are themselves allergens, which is especially problematic for those with asthma. The most common rodents you’ll find in the north Atlanta area are the house mouse and the Norway rat.

  • House mouse- This mouse weighs less than an ounce and has dark gray fur, large ears, and a long tail.
  • Norway rat- The Norway rat is a stocky variety with a blunt nose, beady eyes, and small ears. They have short, scaly tails and reddish or brown fur.

If you see either of these rodents in your home, there could be many more. They reproduce very quickly, so call us ASAP for rodent removal!

Fabric-Destroying Insects

Beetles and moths can wreak havoc on your home and belongings without you even noticing. These pests feed on natural materials like cotton, wool, fur, and leather, which means that anything from your carpets, rugs, linens, and window treatments to furniture, clothing, coats, and hats is at risk.

  • Webbing clothes moth- Unlike most moths, this species is not drawn to light and you will not see them flying around your light fixtures. In fact, they are exactly the opposite, preferring to hide in closets, attics, under upholstered furniture, and other dark spaces where they can feast on natural fabrics.
  • Carpet beetle larvae- The larvae of the varied carpet beetle (the most common type found in Kennesaw, Woodstock, and surrounding areas) take 3 years to mature and in that time, they can do a number on your home. The larvae are 4-5 millimeters long, with dark and light brown stripes and hairy bodies that are wider at the back.

We offer Kennesaw pest control services at affordable prices to fit your budget, and we have the experience and knowledge to solve your pest control problems right the first time. If you see signs of these pests in your home, call Protect All Pest Control right away at 770-212-9990.

Keep Pests Out With This Fall Homeowner Checklist

pest control services MariettaOur last post discussed the reasons you need fall pest control, namely roaches, spiders, and rodents! These pests love seeking shelter in warm homes as temperatures drop, and Protect All Pest Control can help you evict them. However, there are some preventative steps you can take to keep unwanted guests from showing up in the first place. Below, take a look at our fall pest-proofing checklist for homeowners.

Even the tiniest opening is enough to allow pests into your home, so seal them up.

  • Repair or replace any door or window screens with holes or tears.
  • Replace worn, cracked, or warped weatherstripping around windows.
  • Caulk any cracks on the exterior of your home, especially around pipes and utility lines.
  • Keep trees and shrubs trimmed back from your home and never store firewood within 20 feet of your home- it’s asking for termites!
  • Add door bottoms (or door sweeps) to exterior doors.
  • Install a chimney cap or screen to keep the local wildlife from finding their way inside.

  • Repair any leaky pipes or other sources of moisture ASAP.
  • As always, keep food contained to the kitchen and stored in airtight containers.
  • Take the trash out frequently and use a trashcan with a lid.

Unfortunately, while these tips can make your home less attractive to pests, they are not foolproof. Roaches, spiders, mice, and other pests are skilled at infiltration, with roaches even fitting through spaces as small as 1/16th of an inch! If you see or hear signs of an infestation, you can be sure there are more unwanted guests that you’re not seeing. Contact us as soon as possible for a consultation on your pest control needs in Woodstock, Kennesaw, or Acworth.

Call Now for Fall Pest Control

Woodstock pest control servicesThe first official day of fall is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to think about fall pest control. Summer’s pests- fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, fire ants- are subsiding, making it more enjoyable to be outdoors. However, that doesn’t mean an end to your pest control needs; far from it.

Autumn pests to watch out for:

While outdoor insects may be dying down for the  summer, other pests are setting up shop inside your home! This is the time of year when spiders, cockroaches, and rodents seek shelter in order to prepare for the cold winter months ahead.

Rodents- Mice and rats are common infestations in the fall and winter. They bring with them a variety of unsavory problems for homeowners from spreading diseases like salmonella and hantavirus, to invading your home’s insulation, to gnawing electrical wiring and potentially causing a fire.

Spiders- You may already be noticing a proliferation of spiders in Woodstock, Kennesaw, Acworth, and throughout north Atlanta. As the temperature continues to drop, many spiders will find your home a comfortable place to build a web. While most spiders in Georgia are not dangerous, brown recluses, brown widows, and black widows can have dangerous bites.

Roaches- Like rodents, roaches also carry disease and may spread salmonella or gastroenteritis to humans. However, they can also cause asthma attacks. Young children are at the most risk, but anyone can have a roach allergy and suffer allergy attacks from roach skin, feces, or saliva in their environment.

If you see signs of these pests in your home, don’t wait to call us for pest treatment services. Where there’s one mouse or roach, there are probably many more! Contact us online or call us at 770-212-9990 for more information about affordable pest control in Woodstock, Kennesaw, and Acworth.

What is Integrated Pest Management?

safe pest removal AcworthThese days, more and more homeowners are starting to question the presence of harsh chemicals in their homes, from cleaning products to building materials to pest control. As awareness grows about the effects of our environments on our health, conscientious homeowners are seeking out solutions that are more eco-friendly and healthier for their families. But does embracing a healthier environment mean settling for a home full of bugs? No way!

Integrated Pest Management for healthier homes

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) offers safety for your family without settling for insufficient pest control. The IPM approach combines common sense with in-depth knowledge of pests- both their life cycles and the ways in which they fit into their ecosystem. The goals of IPM are to manage pests in the most economical way possible, while posing the least possible hazard to people, pets, your home, and the wider environment. IPM makes use of all applicable pest control methods to deal with the given situation, which can include the strategic use of pesticides.

How does Integrated Pest Management work?

At Protect All Pest Control, we are leaders in the use of IPM in the north Atlanta area. We do this in a number of ways, including:

  • Prevention– We will advise you on the best preventative measures to keep pests out of your home, from home repairs to landscaping tips.
  • Identification and monitoring– We provide education on what the homeowner is seeing and/or indications of a problem if they arise later, and may deploy non-chemical monitoring devices to determine the nature and extent of an infestation.
  • Treatment– The inspection and monitoring of your infestation allow us to create a treatment plan that requires the least possible use of toxic chemicals.
